Since 1964, the firm of D. A. Reid, Baker & Confectioner, has been producing quality products for an expanding local market. The bakery was originally based in Castletown, Caithness but moved in 1998 to larger more modern premises in Thurso.

While they continue to serve the local population the owner, Donnie Reid, is currently putting into action systems to allow them to expand into markets further afield.

The firm has two premises within Thurso. Riverside Place houses the bakery, a Fish & Chip shop and a Fresh Sandwich bar. In addition, you can also purchase a selection of tempting pies, pastries, cakes, sweets and drinks from this premises.

The other location, in High Street, is a retail shop and cafeteria which can be found in the heart of the town's pedestrian precinct. Again serving a wide variety of the company's products, the weary shopper can sit and watch the world go by with a beverage and some mouthwatering produce.

Between the two establishments, there are some 25 personnel. The company supplies local branches of two national supermarket chains and are one of the major food suppliers in Caithness. As well as a large range of standard products, they are also able to take orders for special items and will bake and professionally decorate cakes for any occasion. By the wonders of modern technology they are even able to put an edible photograph onto a cake!
